The smartphone will also have MST to mobile payments

LG’s G5, which was announced this February during MWC, introduced the new semi-modular design on a smartphone. The company had hoped that the G5’s modular accessories would make the phone a hit, but it later discovered that the market wasn’t very receptive to the device.

Still, it seems that other smartphone makers adopted the idea and launched their own phones with modular accessories that performed better on the market. Motorola’s Moto Z, Moto Z Force and Moto Z Play also come with such accessories for enhancing battery life, audio or using a projector to watch videos.

Although the idea does seem appealing to the market, LG’s approach wasn’t that successful. The company seems to have learned from its mistakes and the G5’s successor won’t feature the same modular design, as a recent rumor suggests.

The G6 could feature an iris scanner

Android Headlines found out that the upcoming LG G6 would have a different design compared to its predecessor and it would also come with an iris scanner. This will surely catch the market’s attention, considering that the latest smartphone that incorporated an iris scanner, the Galaxy Note 7, was discontinued.

This information comes in the form of a rumor at this point and should be taken with a grain of salt. Nevertheless, the G6 is expected to come with MST technology for mobile payments, which is more versatile compared to White Card, used on many phones out there.

The technology allows payments to be processed automatically when the device is located near magnetic card readers. Apparently, more than 90% of card readers available on the market are compatible with the MST technology.

The G6 is expected to arrive this summer and it should have more advanced features compared to its predecessor. The LG G5 ran on a Snapdragon 820 CPU and had 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory.
