LG announced the premium G6 during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last month, but the smartphone arrived to Korea just yesterday. According to local reports, the G6 is doing better than its G5 predecessor and managed to sell about 20,000 units on its launch day.

LG sold just 15,000 units of the G5 when it was launched in Korea and the numbers could have been higher for the G6 if the presidential sentencing weren’t scheduled on the same day. The trial brought much controversy, considering that Samsung’s heir was involved.

Therefore, customers could only buy the G6 from brick-and-mortar stores in the evening. Prior to the launch, the G6 received 40,000 registrations in just 4 days. This means that half of the people who expressed their intention to buy the phone actually purchased it on the first day. An LG official recently said that if the G6 sells at least 10,000 units per day, then it’s considered a success.

Significantly higher price than the G5

The G6 currently sells for $800, a high leap from the $630 price tag for the G5 at launch. But the G6 brings significant improvements to its predecessor. The latest LG premium smartphone comes with a 5.7-inch Full Vision display with 18:9 aspect ratio and QHD+ pixel resolution.

Inside, the smartphone runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 processor and features 4GB of RAM, with 32GB or 64GB of internal storage. The phone has a 13MP dual-camera setup on the back and a 5MP wide-angle camera in the front. IP68 certification ensures protection against water and dust damages, while the phone draws power from a 3,300mAh battery. The G6 runs Android 7.0 Nougat and it’s the first non-Pixel smartphone to come with Google Assistant out of the box.

The G6 is expected to see a global launch next month and arrive to the US on April 7, in unlocked and carrier variants.
