An odd choice for LG if the report proves to be accurate

If you've been excited by the recently leaked press render of the LG G6, then here is something that will make you think twice before readying your wallet for a possible purchase.

Although all previous rumors suggested LG G6 would be equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor, a new report coming out from China claims otherwise.

Soon after the first press render of the LG G6 was revealed to the world, messages posted on Weibo by sources familiar with the South Korean company's plans imply that the flagship won't come with the Snapdragon 835 chipset inside.

Apparently, the G6 will feature the current Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 CPU, which already powers other flagships like the OnePlus 3T and LeEco Le Pro3. This a rather odd choice for LG to say the least, one that could cost the handset maker quite a lot in terms of sales.

Since the competition will most likely put the Snapdragon 835 processor inside their flagships, LG's new high-end smartphone will be packed with Qualcomm's chipset from last year. The good news is there's no way to confirm the information yet, so take it with a tint of salt for the time being.

Aside from the Qualcomm chipset, be it Snapdragon 821 or 835, the LG G6 is expected to sport a larger 5.7-inch display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. A dual-camera setup will be available on the back side of the phone, along with a fingerprint sensor.

When it comes to design, the smartphone is said to feature a screen-to-body ratio of more than 90 percent, something that not even Xiaomi's Mi Max managed to achieve last year.

While the LG G6 will abandon the modular design, the smartphone won't ditch the 3.5mm audio jack, so users will benefit from both USB Type-C port and the former. Stay tuned for more on this one.

UPDATE: Forbes confirms the LG G6 won't be getting Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 because the chip will only be available after the Galaxy S8 launches in April.
