LG is working on its next-gen flagship device

LG has unveiled the G4 flagship earlier this year, and unlike other device makers, it chose to stick with the less-risky Snapdragon 808 instead of adopting the overheating-prone Snapdragon 810 like HTC, OnePlus, or Sony.

As it turns out, though, next year LG will go back to incorporating Qualcomm’s top of the line chipset, the Snapdragon 820, into its devices. According to a recent report coming out of G for Games, the Korean tech giant has already started working on its next-gen flagship, even if the LG G4 is barely six months old.

The source providing this information claims that LG’s upcoming flagship, which will probably be called the G5, will be powered by Qualcomm’s new chipset that takes advantage of the company’s custom cores dubbed Kyro. Furthermore, we’re told that the phone will feature a 20MP camera (the G4 has a worthy 16MP one) with a custom 1/2-inch Sony sensor.

Apparently, the G5’s camera won’t embed a mass-produced Sony sensor like most devices out there, but it will benefit from one made specially for the Korean company.

Another premium phone after the G4 is coming

In related news, LG is expected to unveil another high-end smartphone by the end of the year. The atypical LG V10 showed up today in a press render, showing the weird secondary display plastered on top of the usual one.

LG has tried its hand at experimenting with unusual form factors ever since the LG G Flex. The company launched a sequel this year that runs on the Snapdragon 810 platform, but which didn’t prove to be all that popular.

Hopefully, the V10 will fare better. The phablet is expected to arrive with a 5.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display with support for QHD (2,560 x 1,440 pixel) resolution. Hardware-wise, the phone will pack a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage (which can be expanded up to 128GB via microSD card slot).

The handset features a 16MP camera with laser autofocus, dual LED flash and 4K video recording, and a 5MP selfie camera. There’s also a fingerprint scanner to speak of.

The future at LG sounds quite interesting.
