As expected, LG has just unveiled its next flagship smartphone, the G5. There's no doubt that many of you have been reading about the LG G5's specs, which leaked in the last couple of weeks.

Well, it looks like most of these leaks are pretty accurate. LG G5 features a semi-modular design with full metal body. It looks very much like a smaller Huawei Nexus 6P, which is not a bad thing at all.

But the G5 doesn't come alone, as LG announced a few “Friends” that will come along with its flagship smartphone. These so-called “Friends” consist of plug-in and external modules that can be controlled from the phone or independently.

For audiophiles, LG offers a portable Hi-Fi DAC audio player which provides both 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC upsampling and 32-bit 384KHz high-definition audio playback.

Another external module that can be used with the LG is the LG 360 VR, a virtual reality headset compatible with Google Cardboard content, but also with content captured with LG's 360 camera, another module that can be controlled independently and capture 13-megapixel 200-degree wide angle images.

LG also announced the Rolling Bot, which can take pictures and control compatible home appliances. The LG Tone Platinum earphones and the H3 by B&O PLAY noise cancelling earphones have been announced too.

Full metal design does not rule out removable battery and microSD card slot

The South Korean company managed to design a full metal smartphone and keep the removable battery and the microSD card slot.

Users will be able to insert the LG Cam Plus that features dedicated camera button and zoom in/out key. The module will also expand LG G5's 2,800 mAh battery to 4,000 mAh.

It's also compatible with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 and feature low power consumption location feature and Dolby Digital Plus technology.

The flagship is powered by Snapdragon 820 CPU, paired with 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage that can be expanded up to 2TB via microSD card slot.

It also comes with USB Type-C port, NFC (Near Field Communication), Bluetooth 4.2, dual cameras on the back (16MP+8MP) and 8-megapixel camera in the front.

LG G5 boasts a 5.3-inch HD IPS Quantum display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution. It's an Always-on display, as LG confirmed a while ago.

Naturally, the smartphone ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system right out of the box and the latest version of LG UX.
