Pixel 2 devices will launch later this year

Google made a major strategy shift last year when the company released the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones and gave up on the Nexus line of phones. The premium Pixel devices feature high-end specs and come with some of the best rear cameras on the market.

While Google is expected to announce new iterations in the Pixel series this year, details and rumors about the upcoming devices continue to stream online. However, a recent report about Pixel 3 devices, set to launch in 2018, has been branded as “speculation of the highest degree.”

LG has firmly denied a claim made in a report from Chosun Biz which stated that the South Korean smartphone maker would be the manufacturer of the Pixel 3 smartphones, set to launch next year. LG has said the claims are speculation and firmly denied the report.

Pixel 2 devices will be manufactured by HTC

A potential partnership between LG and Google wouldn’t be that surprising, considering that the two companies have worked on smartphones before, including on the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and Nexus 5X.

In addition, LG’s Display division was approached by Google to manufacture OLED screens in exchange for $880 million.

The screens are most likely for the Pixel 2 smartphones, which are set to launch later this year, as Samsung’s Display division is mainly busy with the production of OLED screens for the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 and the iPhone 8.

That being said, the manufacturer of this year’s Pixel 2 smartphones is HTC, same as last year. HTC’s deal with Google for manufacturing phones actually ends this year, leaving the spot open for other smartphone makers to jump in, but it’s too early to speculate on who they might be.

Still, the successors will have improved features compared to the original Pixel and Pixel XL devices, including waterproof protection and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 platform on all three upcoming smartphones in the Pixel series.
