Google is expected to release successors to last year’s Pixel and Pixel XL sometime in the second quarter of this year and more information about the upcoming devices seems to have surfaced. According to a report, LG will build the largest of Google smartphones to be announced this year, codenamed Taimen.

The information appeared on the Google Issue Tracker and revealed that LG would be the manufacturer of Google’s Taimen device. The device is called G011C in the listing and it appears that Taimen will be the largest of the phones to be released this year.

Google was previously expected to announce three new devices this year, but a recent report revealed that the tech giant might have canceled one of them. Muskie, the direct successor to last year’s Pixel XL, was reportedly canceled and will be replaced by Taimen. This could mean that the two upcoming phones might have different designs, much like 2015’s Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

Google Taimen will have a bigger display than the Pixel XL

Recent rumors about Google’s upcoming smartphone, Taimen, have suggested that the device will have a bigger screen than even the Pixel XL, which featured a 5.5-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution.

This means that Google might incorporate a 5.6 or 5.7-inch screen on Taimen and its aspect ratio could very well be 18:9, to allow the phone to compete against Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and LG G6. In addition, the device will most likely run Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835, if not the unannounced SD836.

It might feature a dual-camera setup on the back with improved lenses.  An alleged Pixel XL 2 smartphone recently showed up in benchmark with a 5.6-inch display and an atypical 2560 x 1312 pixel resolution. It had 4GB of RAM and internal storage of 128GB. It also ran Android 7.1.1 Nougat and featured a single lens 12MP sensor on the back, with an 8MP front camera.
