LG is expected to announce its latest flagship smartphone during the Mobile World Congress in late February, but this piece of information has yet to be officially confirmed. However, LG teased some of the features in the new phone recently and announced new battery tests.

The latest report from Korea Herald reveals that LG Electronics has adopted a new technology and improved its quality assurance tests on the upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG G6.

“We will significantly improve the safety and quality of our new flagship smartphones as more consumers seek safe smartphones,” said Lee Seok-jong, LG Electronics’ mobile communication operation group.

The company will be using “heat pipes” made out of copper to conduct heat and avoid the battery overheating at high temperatures. Heat pipes are used in laptops and personal computers to help cool devices and they are said to reduce temperatures by as much as 10% by dispersing internal heat.

The G6 is being subjected to a number of quality assurance tests

In addition, LG designed the phone in such a way that parts with a tendency to heat up are placed as far apart as possible so that heat wouldn’t concentrate in one area. LG has also announced that it’s implementing tougher battery and safety tests to make sure the phone is safe to use.

“We are conducting battery heat exposure tests to a temperature 15 percent higher than the temperature set by the international standards of the US and Europe,” an LG official said.

“The battery also undergoes diverse tests such as piercing it with a sharp nail or dropping a heavy object on it from a high place,” he added.

Moreover, the LG G6 is undergoing more complex accelerated-life tests, to discover potential failures in design and hardware. The tests require the new smartphone to be dropped repeatedly or exposed to high voltages.

The company’s V20 phone announced last year received US military standard MIL-STD 810G certification, which means that the phone is durable enough to be used in military drills and combat.
