LG has been providing its official Bootloader Unlock tool for developers for quite some time now and the company has even started adding flagship smartphones to the list, including the G5, V10 and V20. Now it seems that the LG G6 is also on the list.

LG added the G6 (H870) European variant to the Bootloader Unlock Tool, meaning that developers and users who wish to do more with their G6 phones can do so using LG’s official tools. Bootloader unlocking allows users to run custom ROMs on the device.

Those who wish to unlock the bootloader would need to install Android SDK and ADB on a computer, verify the IMEI and generate an unlock key to finish the process. LG also shared all the steps that users must take in order to unlock the bootloader. LG did mention that unlocking the bootloader will be supported on selected devices, which is why only a few variants are included in the tool.

Unlocking the bootloader voids the phone’s warranty

The bootloader can be officially unlocked on the LG G4 for the European market, LG G5 for the US and European market, as well as the V20 for the US market, among others. Users should keep in mind that the bootloader unlock process could void the phone’s warranty.

That being said, unlocking the phone will disable some functions, including the DRM protection which is required by some apps to work. The process can also make the device vulnerable and it cannot be undone.

LG released the G6 earlier this year, and it comes with a 5.7-inch FullVision display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 3,300mAh battery inside with Quick Charge 3.0. It also features 4GB of RAM and runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 platform. The phone is offered with 32 or 64GB of internal storage, two 13MP sensors on the back and a 5MP selfie shooter in the front. It comes with a metal and glass body, together with protection against water and dust.
