Many fans still consider Jesse Eisenberg miscast in the role of Lex Luthor in the upcoming “Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” from director Zack Snyder, so this would probably explain why he’s so eager to distance himself from Gene Hackman’s take on the same character.

Speaking with MTV News, Eisenberg says that his Lex Luthor is not “this silly, villainous character,” but someone with more substance and psychological accuracy, a character that audiences can relate to because he’s “real.”

You can see his explanation in the video below. The idea is that Hackman’s Lex Luthor belonged to the moment he was born into, in the sense that cinema favorited this kind of cartoonish, outlandish, eccentric villains.

We won’t find them in “Dawn of Justice,” Eisenberg promises.

In other words, “Dawn of Justice” is just as dark and serious as you imagined it would be based on the first trailer and the scarce art Warner Bros. has released so far. No wonder then that the rumor persists that studio bosses have issued a ban on jokes and “light” superhero movies.

“Dawn of Justice” is the first “Justice League” film that will hopefully turn Warners into a worthy competitor to Marvel and its Avengers universe, aka the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It will bring back Henry Cavill as Superman and Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and introduce Eisenberg as Luthor, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, and Jason Momoa as Aquaman.

The film is scheduled for theatrical release in March 2016.
