During an event held in New Delhi on May 17, Motorola unveiled three new smartphones in the next-gen Moto G series, the Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus, and Moto G4 Play. The first two stole the spotlight during the event while the Moto G4 Play made a silent market entry. It’s a new mid-range device, aimed at users who would rather not spend that much time on a phone.

The Moto G4 Play appears to be quite similar to the Moto G and Moto G Plus, with a design that follows the guidelines in the series. The G4 Play runs stock Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. and doesn't have features like Moto Display or Moto Voice, like on the Moto G4 Plus.

Moto G4 Play features a 5-inch 720p display, smaller than the 5.5-inch screens on the other two handsets. It also comes with a quadcore Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, clocked at 1.2GHz, which is a lower frequency compared to the other two smartphones in the Moto G series.

RAM capacity is the same as for the Moto G4, but the Moto G4 Plus has a variant with 4GB of RAM. Internal storage reaches 16GB for the Moto G4 Play, with the capacity to expand to up to 128GB using a microSD card.

No TurboPower support or fingerprint sensor

Moto G4 Play has a battery of 2800mAh, compared to the 3000mAh one on the Moto G4. Moreover, it doesn’t boast TurboPower charging, a feature that allows users to charge their devices for 15 minutes and power them for up to 6 hours.

Rear camera capacity isn’t as powerful as on the Moto G4, as it only comes with 8MP and f/2.2 aperture and 5MP on the front. It supports WiFi, Bluetooth, and it has a microUSB port and 3.5mm headphone jack. Moto G4 Plus is the only smartphone in the series that sports a fingerprint sensor for user authentication.

The Moto G4 Play is available in Black and White colors. It has been announced for the United States only, and it will be available in mid-summer 2016.
