It looks like Lenovo is the newest Google partner that wants a piece of Project Tango. The company has just confirmed it has teamed up with the search giant for a “shared vision” that will be unveiled next week.

Lenovo and Google announced a common event on January 7, 2016, where they will share more details on their partnership.

The Chinese company has already sent invitations to the media where they hint to a “shared vision for a new tomorrow.” Little is known about the upcoming event and what the companies plan to unveil as the invitation is pretty cryptic:

“Mobile devices should see and navigate the world, the way we do. Join Lenovo & Google's Project Tango for a special announcement.”

Lenovo is not the only Google Project Tango partner, but it's one of the few expected to implement this technology into their Android smartphones.

Is Lenovo launching a commercial Project Tango smartphone?

NVIDIA is another company that included Tango technology into one of its tablets, but there are also other major players in the market that work with Google on this project, including Intel and Qualcomm.

In fact, Lenovo would be the third company that plans to include Tango technology into a smartphone, after Qualcomm and Intel. Also, LG confirmed it would bring a commercial Tango smartphone to the masses in the coming months, but that did not happen yet.

Project Tango is a new technology developed by Google that takes advantage of computer vision to allow smartphones and tablets to detect their position relative to the world around them. The positioning is done without having to use GPS or other external signals.

It's also worth mentioning that Project Tango enables apps created by developers to track a device's position and orientation in a detailed 3D environment, as well as to recognize known surroundings.
