The device will be developed by Motorola's team

One of the world's largest handset manufacturers, Lenovo reiterated its plans to penetrate the US market. However, the company will have little to do with the development of the smartphones aimed at this important market.

Lenovo Chief Executive Yuanqing Yang said in a recent interview for Wall Street Journal that his company plans to launch a “more innovative, more attractive” device in the United States no later than July.

According to the electronics maker, with the slowdown in China, Lenovo seeks out new opportunities for growth in other regions like Africa, India and the Middle East.

One market that Lenovo did not yet manage to penetrate yet, North America, will be the target of new products that will be directly designed and developed by Motorola.

Although Lenovo's official hasn't shared any details on the phone's actual specs, we can safely assume it will be of high-end tier.

However, it will be interesting to see whether or not Motorola, through its new owner, Lenovo, will continue to partner with major carrier Verizon Wireless for the launch of new DROID family handsets.

Better Moto E and Moto G smartphones incoming as well

Previous statements coming from other Lenovo officials confirmed Motorola would launch improved versions of Moto E and Moto G series this year.

Lenovo stated a few weeks ago that Motorola's affordable smartphones might pack different specs in China where competition is fierce.

For example, Motorola's budget-friendly smartphones will come with at least 5-inch capacitive touchscreen displays and fingerprint sensors. Still, these features might not be included in the international version of these smartphones.

Before the recently confirmed smartphone that should arrive in the US in July, Motorola is expected to launch a few other mid-range handsets.

It remains to be seen where exactly these smartphones will be available aside from the US and some emerging markets.
