14 DAY TRIAL // As expected, Lenovo has just introduced the world's first Tango Project smartphone commercially available, the Phab 2 Pro, in the United States. The phone was rumored to arrive in the country many months ago, but for whatever reasons Lenovo and Google have decided to delay the launch of the Phab 2 Pro repeatedly.
The good news is that, beginning this week, the Phab 2 Pro is available for purchase via Lenovo's online store for just $499.99. We reported last week that Lenovo plans to launch the standard Phab 2 model in the U.S., but it looks like it was just a placeholder for the release of the Project Tango phone.
Lenovo only offers the Phab 2 Pro in Gunmetal Grey color, but additional versions might be available in the future. It's also worth mentioning that the phone ships with Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box.
Spec-wise, the Phab 2 Pro is a true high-end phone since it sports a huge 6.4-inch display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, as well as a large 4,050 mAh battery that features fast charging technology.
On the inside, Lenovo included a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card.
Since this is a “special” phone, it comes with a set of four cameras that work in conjunction with Tango. The cameras wouldn't be that useful without specially-developed software that should enable AR experiences.
According to Lenovo, the rear cameras consist of a 16 MP RGB camera, depth camera, and fisheye camera for ultra-wide angle panoramics. Also, in the front, an 8 MP camera is perfect for selfies and groupfies.
Lenovo Phab 2 Pro packs triple array microphones with active noise-cancellation, Dolby Atmos, Dolby Audio Capture 5.1, and 3.5mm audio jack.
The bad news is customers in the United States will not be able to use it with all carriers since the Phab 2 Pro only works with AT&T and T-Mobile.
