Lenovo used the CES 2018 show in Las Vegas to join the growing group of manufacturers building Windows 10 on ARM devices.

The company’s Miix 630 is its first Always Connected device, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor and promising up to 20 hours of battery life per charge.

While that’s impressive to say the least, the other feature that’s worth highlighting is the way it looks, as the Miix 630 is more or less a clone of the more famous Microsoft Surface Pro.

The new Lenovo model comes with an integrated hinge, a detachable keyboard, and can be used in different angles, with a dedicated pen also offered to take advantage of Windows Ink in Windows 10.

Hardware specifications

While in terms of looks the Miix 630 appears to be a Surface Pro clone, not the same thing can be said about the hardware specifications.

The device is powered by the said Snapdragon 835 processor paired with either 4GB or 8GB RAM, and Lenovo is offering three different storage options ranging in between 64GB and 256GB. Graphics come in the form of an integrated Qualcomm Adreno 540 unit.

The 12.3-inch display is protected by Gorilla Glass, and the device offers one USB-C port, one SD card slot, and one nano-SIM slot for LTE connectivity. There are two cameras, one on the front with 5 megapixels, and another one on the rear with 13 megapixels.

Without a doubt, the feature that Lenovo is betting big on is the battery life, which should reach 20 hours per charge. This is possible thanks to Windows 10 S, a special version of Microsoft’s desktop operating system that is limited to apps published in the Microsoft Store and which cannot install Win32 software unless upgraded to Windows 10 Pro.

Lenovo will offer 180 days to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, most likely free of charge, though details in this regard will be shared at a later date. The device is projected to go on sale soon with a starting price of $800.
