Lenovo is one of the first companies that started invested in 2-in-1 devices following the release of the original Microsoft Surface in 2012, and now the firm is preparing to introduce a new model that’s more powerful than ever.

The Miix 520, which is a successor to last year’s Miix 510, is a Surface rival by all means, coming with a detachable keyboard, a built-in kickstand, and a dedicated pen that makes it possible for users to take full advantage of Windows Ink in Windows 10.

As compared to previous generations, the Miix is a lot more powerful, and it can be equipped with the 8th generation Intel Core processors ranging from i3 to i7. The top-of-the-line configuration features a quad-core i7 processor paired with 16GB LPDDR4 RAM and 1TB PCIe SSD storage.

The 12.2-inch display offers a resolution of 1920x1200 pixels and is optimized for pen use – the Lenovo active pen is available included in the box for buyers of the Miix 520.

LTE support and stylus included in the box

As compared to the Surface Pro, the new Lenovo model comes with LTE support already – Microsoft plans to ship an LTE version of its own 2-in-1 device later this year, but also with a 3D camera that enables capturing images of an object and creating a 3D model for printing or further edits.

Lenovo has also equipped the Miix with the watchband hinge that was previously available on Yoga convertible laptops, and with a microphone that enables voice commands with Cortana.

The device features a backlit keyboard with 1.5mm key travel and precision touchpad, and tips the scales at only 1.25 kg when the keyboard is attached to the tablet.

The Miix 520 will go on sale in October with pricing to start at $999.99, with the detachable keyboard and the aforementioned digital pen included. It will be available in two different colors, namely light and dark gray.
