14 DAY TRIAL // Even though some of the first smartphones to pack fingerprint sensors were launched by Motorola, the US-based handset maker did not embrace the concept in all its products.
However, that is likely to change beginning this year since Lenovo, Motorola's new owner, has big plans for the US company.
According to Chen Xudong, SVP of Lenovo and president of Lenovo China and Asia Pacific, all Motorola smartphones that will be launched in 2016 will pack fingerprint sensor.
On top of that, Lenovo's official confirmed that Motorola would not launch any smartphones this year that will include displays smaller than 5-inches.
This means that Motorola's affordable smartphones will come with 5-inch or larger displays, or they won't come at all.
As GSMArena points out, the Moto E series is known for their low price, but also smaller screens. The original Moto E sports a 4.3-inch display while the 2nd Gen model comes with a slightly larger 4.5-inch screen.
If we are to believe Xudong's statement, the 3rd Gen Moto E should pack at least a 5-inch capacitive touchscreen display, which would be great of course.
Moto brand for high-end phones, Vibe for budget-friendly devices
There's also the possibility that Motorola won't be launching any affordable smartphones this year, especially considering Xudong's recent statement that highlights the fact that most budget devices will be branded with Lenovo's Vibe logo.
According to him, starting this year, Motorola's Moto brand will only be used for high-end devices that will be launched on the market.
So, while we will still see Motorola's brand on some smartphones, they will probably be limited to the higher tier, as Lenovo will put its own Vibe brand on any affordable Android smartphones coming on the market this year.
In the same piece of news, Lenovo's official confirmed once again that Google services will eventually make their debut in China before the end of this year.
