Apple is expected to unveil the new-generation iPhone in exactly one week, and leaks that have reached the web today come to confirm yet another change that the company is planning for this upgraded lineup.

We’ve known for a while that the 16GB iPhone will finally go dark, as Apple plans to replace it with an entry-level version that offers increased storage capacity, and a prototype label spotted online seems to confirm that the most affordable iPhone will come with 32GB.

The essential word here, however, is “prototype,” so while Apple might indeed be planning to make this change, nothing has been confirmed so far, and a sudden change of mind could always take place overnight (well, not exactly overnight since it takes time to manufacture iPhones with a different storage capacity, but you get the point).

The top-of-the-range iPhone

In addition to the entry-level iPhone that’ll come with increased storage, Apple is also making changes to the top-of-the-line model, which, according to a new leak today from NWE, will come with 256GB.

We’ve known for a while that Apple was pondering offering 256GB of storage space on the top iPhones, especially because the company has no intention of adding microSD card support for easy storage expansion, and this new leak that shows what appears to be iPhone 7 documentation seems to confirm that this is indeed the case.

Additionally, the same documentation confirms that Apple is expected to call the new model “iPhone 7,” despite rumors that the company could go for the 6SE moniker in order to save the seventh–generation name for 2017, when it celebrates the 10th anniversary of the iPhone.

Without a doubt, the storage increase is a welcome change for both models, as entry-level and top-of-the-range versions clearly need more storage, especially since there is no plan to offer card support.

The only way to get more storage on an iPhone is either to buy a Lightning adapter that lets you plug in a card (but this means that you can’t have the card in the phone all the time) or to buy iCloud storage and keep everything in the cloud.
