F.lux functionality ready to be integrated into Windows 10

One of the features that Microsoft is planning on introducing with the upcoming Windows 10 Creators Update is a blue light filter, which would provide functionality similar to the f.lux app that’s already available cross platform.

And it turns out that this feature is ready for its first appearance, as a blue light filter has been spotted in Windows 10 build 14997 which got leaked a few hours ago.

This new Windows 10 setting would make using the PC easier during the night by adjusting color temperature and using blue to balance the display settings in order to match the light that you typically see during the day. This way, Microsoft wants to adjust your display settings at the operating system level, so you won’t have to touch your monitor to do it.

f.lux is already super successful, not only on the desktop but also on smartphones, where manufacturers already stepped in and developed their own alternatives that are directly integrated into the operating system. Apple, for instance, is offering the so-called Night Shift on the iPhone, which kicks in at predefined hours or when the user selects it.

Coming soon to Windows Insiders

In Windows 10, the blue light filter will come with options to adjust color temperature at night and configure a schedule - these, however, are just the first settings that are integrated into the operating system, so the feature could evolve more in the coming updates to the operating system, depending on the feedback Redmond gets from insiders.

“Displays emit blue light - the kind of light you see during the day. Windows can show warmer colors to make it easier to sleep at night,” the feature description posted in the Settings app reads.

For the moment, this feature is available exclusively in this build, but insiders should get it in early January when Microsoft is projected to launch new builds for Windows insiders.
