With the release of Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the South Korean company has raised the bar when it comes to the design of smartphones. However, there are some Samsung phones that don’t come with an elegant body, but rather a rugged case that appeals to particular categories of users. One such phone is the Galaxy S7 Active.

Rumors on the Galaxy S7 Active started surfacing quite a while ago and culminated with the release of a GFXBench benchmark test that was posted online and shed some light on the specs. While the name of the upcoming model in Samsung’s Galaxy S series hasn’t been confirmed, the SM-G891A caused quite a stir online.

Renowned leakster Evan Blass posted an image of the upcoming Galaxy S7 Active in a gold variant, calling the color “desert camo.” It has yet to be established if Samsung will settle on the name, but the color variant seems to be here to stay.

It’s expected to come with IP68 certification

The upcoming S7 Active seems to retain the “Active key” above the volume rocker, which will most likely be used to launch the Active Zone app. The device will also come with extra protection at the corners and physical buttons in the front.

The AT&T branding is displayed on the screen, thus confirming that the American multinational telecommunications corporation will be selling the device. The phone’s rear camera will come with flash and heart rate monitor sensors.

Rumors on the Galaxy S7 Active suggest that the new model will retain some features from the Galaxy S7 and come with a 5.5-inch display and 2560 x 1440 pixel resolution. It will have 4GB of RAM and 32GB storage capacity.

Camera capabilities will reach 12MP in the rear and 5MP in the front, with auto-focus and face detection. Galaxy S6 Active was IP68 certified, so we expect the upcoming model to have the same water and dust resistance.

The leaked image also confirms the Galaxy S7 Active name for the upcoming model and the date June 10 is displayed on the screen, which could be a hint regarding the release date. However, these are just speculations at this time and the information should be taken with a big grain of salt.
