No bezels, wireless charging, Touch ID in the display coming

The Samsung Galaxy S8 launched earlier this year with a bunch of innovations in the high-end market, including narrow bezels, which dramatically improve the dimensions of the display.

Furthermore, there were reports claiming that Samsung has even tried to install the fingerprint sensor under the display, though the company has reportedly failed to get this tech working and decided at the last minute to put it on the back of the phone.

And now a new leak suggests that Apple is working to bring all of these on the next iPhone, plus a little bit more, as it wants the new-generation model to be the absolute Samsung Galaxy S8 killer.

Bezel-less display, wireless charging, and even Touch ID under the screen

Information and renders published by iDropNews indicate that Apple’s upcoming iPhone 8 will come with a nearly bezel-less front design, though there’s something that almost nobody saw coming.

It appears that the smartphone could come with a cutout at the top of the display to house the ear speaker and the front-facing camera, as well as possible laser and infrared sensors that could enable new security features like facial and iris recognition.

Previously, it was believed that Apple wanted to integrate all these features in the display, just like the Touch ID, though it turns out that the company could be going for a different approach without affecting display size too dramatically.

And speaking of the Touch ID, the aforementioned report suggests that there won’t be a physical home button, with Apple working to place it under the display. This is a feature that Samsung didn’t get ready before the launch of the S8 and which Apple wants to bring to the market first in order for the iPhone 8 to be the most innovative smartphone on the market.

Rumors in this regard are not new, though the most recent leaks and speculation pointed to a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor similar to the Google Pixel.

On the other hand, in order to make the iPhone 8 a Galaxy S8 killer by all means, Apple is also working on adding wireless charging. This isn’t the first time we’re hearing about such plans, and Cupertino has previously considered several systems in this regard, including technology that could work across the room, but for the iPhone 8, the firm could just stick with conventional wireless charging.

And yet, the report says a larger pad than usual is planned for the iPhone 8, and thanks to the glass body of the smartphone, it could be possible for wireless charging to also come with new capabilities.

All these features are supposed to arrive on the new iPhone 8 with OLED display, as rumors indicate that Apple will also launch two more conventional iPhone versions called 7s and 7s Plus which will feature an IPS LCD screen with more subtle upgrades.
