Riot Games confirms that it's completely disabled ranked play in its hugely popular League of Legends experience, as a major bug is affecting practically all the champions and guaranteeing them instant recalls back to base. The studio is investigating the problem and searching for a fix, but right now, ranked play continues to remain unavailable.

League of Legends has been around for quite some time now, and while the online experience has gone through various problems over the years, it commands a huge fan following all around the world, not to mention a thriving competitive scene, both in the professional segment and in the amateur one, thanks to its ranked play.

Instant recall bug forces Riot to take ranked play offline

Unfortunately for those who want to test their mettle, Riot Games has been forced to take the ranked play mode offline, after a nasty instant recall bug arrived a few hours ago onto the scene.

More specifically, the recall spell, which can be used to teleport a champion back to base, now works instantly, provided players combine it with certain basic abilities. While at first only the character Riven was able to abuse this glitch, soon players found ways of recreating it with most other characters.

Seeing as how Riot can't start examining every case, the studio has decided to take the ranked play option offline until it can remedy the underlying cause.

"We're currently working to fix a bug with the Recall spell. Unfortunately, this particular issue can't be mitigated by disabling a specific champion or item so we've temporarily disabled Ranked while we develop a solution," the studio explains on its service status website.

It's unclear when exactly a solution will be made available, so until then, players can no longer use the ranked play mode in League of Legends. Expect updates on the situation as soon as they're made available.
