The Launchpad developers are working around the clock to improve this repository, and it looks like they intend to make it fully compatible with the upcoming Snappy packages.

Launchpad was in maintenance mode for a long time, and a couple of years ago, some Ubuntu devs were saying that Launchpad was pretty much complete and provided them with everything they needed. As it turns out, Launchpad did need some important changes, and its devs have been pushing a lot of updates and various other improvements in the past few months.

Canonical figured out that they really needed a service like Launchpad in their future. The better it becomes, the easier it will be for third-party devs to use it. In fact, a lot of applications are already present in Launchpad and despite its limitation, the user base of this repository is still expanding. Hopefully, with all of these new features, it will become even bigger.

Launchpad is preparing for Snappy packages

One of the things that pop out of the changelog is the entry about Snappy packages and it's nice to see that Launchpad will be ready to manage them properly for the desktop users once they become more mainstream.

According to the changelog, the +addcomment’s title no longer duplicates the bug number, the duplicate portlet of bug tasks no longer links to invisible private bugs, hidden bug comments are now shown to their owners, and the "Gmail filtering improvements" have been completed.

Additionally, Snap packages now have edit, administer, and delete views, Snap package owners can request builds in the web UI, blueprints on milestone pages have icons again and are sortable, and many other fixes have been added.

Launchpad is a huge repository with a lot of moving parts, so it's very likely that we'll get to see a lot more patches and improvements in the coming months.
