The Launchpad development cycle is moving forward

The development of the Launchpad platform was put on hold until a few months ago, but that's no longer the case. A new major upgrade has been released for Launchpad, and it looks like Canonical means business.

There were many complaints about Launchpad, but the platform worked for the most part. Sure, there were bugs and issues, but it served a clear and simple purpose. As it turns out, quite a lot of people are turning towards Launchpad, so it's not longer feasible to keep it in place just because it does its job. The developers of the platform have dusted off their keyboards, and they are now implementing and fixing all kinds of cool stuff.

One of the strengths of the Ubuntu OS is Launchpad, which is used as a development platform, third-party repository, feedback for bugs, you name it. It would have been a shame to let all of this potential go to waste, so the next best thing was to improve upon it. In fact, the previous update for Launchpad brought Git integration, and that was a brilliant move from the devs.

Launchpad is getting better

"We’ve also made a fair amount of progress on adding support for triggering webhooks from Launchpad (#342729), which will initially be hooked up for pushes to Git repositories. The basic code model, webservice API, and job retry logic are all in place now, but we need to sort out a few more things including web UI and locking down the proxy configuration before we make it available for general use. We’ll post a dedicated article about this once the feature becomes available," wrote the developers on the official blog.

According to the changelog, a regression in the wrapping layout of side-by-side diffs on bazaar.launchpad.net has been fixed, links to the Git code browsing interface now use shorter URL forms, some new filtering options have been implemented, notifications about duplicate bugs now include an X-Launchpad-Bug-Duplicate header, and numerous other changes and fixes have been added.

More details about all the modifications made to Launchpad can be found in the official announcement.
