There's a new stable release of the GTK+ multi-platform toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces (GUIs), versioned 3.22.6, which promises to work better with OpenGL ES 2.0, the standard for embedded accelerated 3D graphics.

GTK+ 3.22.6 is the sixth maintenance update to the stable 3.22 series of the GUI toolkit, which is used by default and distributed with the GNOME 3.22 Stack, coming approximately one month after the previous version, namely 3.22.5. There are a bunch of bug fixes shipped with the new point release.

One that caught our attention is a fix to improve OpenGL checks to work better on OpenGL ES 2.0. But there are many other interesting changes, besides the update of the German and Russian language translations, which you can view on the changelog attached at the end of the story.

You should update to GTK+ 3.22.6 as soon as possible

GTK+ 3.22.6 is making its way into the stable software repositories of various Linux-based operating systems, so if you're using a modern and rolling GNU/Linux distro with the latest GNOME 3.22 Stack, such as 3.22.2, you should update to GTK+ 3.22.6 as soon as possible.

At the moment of writing, we have no idea if there will be any other maintenance updates of the GTK+ 3.22.x series released anytime soon, but considering the fact that work on GTK+ 4 is kinda slow lately, and that GNOME 3.24 is months away from hitting stable, there might be a couple more such bugfix releases.

Talking about GTK+ 4, we should soon have a new article on the latest work done by the GTK+ developers during the month of December 2016. Until then, and until a new GTK+ 4 unstable snapshot is released, you can download the GTK+ 3.22.6 source archive right now from our website, and make sure you install it on your system.
