The Manjaro Linux development team, through Philip Müller, has had the great pleasure of announcing earlier today, September 7, the general availability of a new stable update for the Manjaro Linux operating system.

Manjaro Update 2015-09-07 (stable) is here to introduce the latest GNU/Linux technologies that have been announced in the last couple of weeks, making Manjaro Linux one of the most up-to-date distributions available on the market. It adds the MATE 1.10.2 desktop environment, Linux kernel 4.2, the proprietary Nvidia 355.11 long-lived video driver, systemd 225, as well as Calligra 2.9.7.

Moreover, the Linux 4.1.6-3 LTS, Linux 3.18.21 LTS, Linux 3.19.8.6, and Linux 3.13.11.26 kernel packages have been added, and Linux kernel 4.0.9 has been removed because it reached end-of-life quite some time ago. All these kernel branches have gotten updated modules. Of course, all of the software updates and security patches from the upstream Arch Linux software repositories, released until today, have been included in the new Manjaro Update package.

"It is always good to check for updated packages, even we don’t notify you about them. As usual people using our testing branch will help us to get snaps over to our stable branch almost smoothly. For notifications on daily basis, please take a look at our mailing list. Please give us feedback and report any findings with this update," says Philip Müller on behalf of the Manjaro Linux development team.

Manjaro Linux 15.09 will be the next stable version of the OS

In some other good news, Manjaro's Philip Müller has announced that the next major version of the GNU/Linux distribution will be Manjaro Linux 15.09. The first Release Candidate (RC) versions of Manjaro Linux 15.09 Xfce and Manjaro Linux 15.09 KDE were announced last week. All editions will be powered by Linux kernel 4.1 LTS by default and will ship with Calamares as the alternative graphical installer.

All users of Manjaro Linux 0.8.13 and 0.8.13.1 are urged to update their systems as soon as possible to get all the goodies mentioned above. Currently, the OS supports the following Linux kernels: 3.10.87 LTS, 3.12.47 LTS, 3.13.11.26, 3.14.51 LTS, 3.16.7.16, 3.18.21 LTS, 3.19.8.6, 4.1.6 LTS, and 4.2.0. Users can install whichever kernel package they find most useful for their hardware. Being based on Arch Linux, Manjaro is a rolling-release distribution, which means that you won't have to download a new ISO image and reinstall each time updates are released.
