The GNU/Linux distro is also based on Debian Jessie

GNU/Linux developer Arne Exton is informing us about the availability of a new stable build of his Linux For All (LFA) open-source computer operating system, versioned 170121.

Based on the Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS (Xenial Xerus) and Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" operating systems, Linux For All (LFA) Build 170121 appears to be a total rebuilt of the GNU/Linux distribution, having nothing in common with any of the previous releases. It now uses the newest Linux 4.9.5 kernel and latest package versions.

Also installed in the new Linux For All release is the Google Chrome web browser, which can be used for watching Netflix movies online, along with the LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) desktop environment, which replaces Ubuntu's Unity user interface. The Nvidia 375.26 proprietary graphics driver is also installed by default.

Now shipping with Firefox for Windows if you want to watch HBO movies

For those of you who want to watch HBO movies online via the HBO Nordic channel, the new Linux for All build ships with the Microsoft Windows version of the popular and open-source Firefox web browser, installed via Wine, because the Pepper Flash plugin appears not to work anymore for HBO movies on Ubuntu/Debian.

"I have installed Wine just to be able to install Firefox for Windows (which I have done). The Windows version is needed if you want to watch HBO Movies/HBO Nordic," said Arne Exton. "The Pepper Flash plugin just doesn’t work anymore in Ubuntu. With Wine installed you can install many other Windows programs using PlayOnLinux."

Unfortunately, the developer didn't manage to install the Refracta Tools in this new build of Linux for All (LFA), which means that you won't be able to create your own, bootable Ubuntu Live system. We invite you to download the Linux For All (LFA) Build 170121 64-bit Live ISO image if you want to install the operating system on your PC.

Don't hesitate to check out the screenshot gallery below to see it in action. Arne Exton's custom Linux 4.9 kernel is also available for download if you want to install it on your existing Ubuntu/Debian machine, and you can study the full package list.
