14 DAY TRIAL // Today, Kyocera has announced a new Android smartphone, dubbed Duraforce PRO. The device is part of the Duraforce series that incorporates various rugged handsets with IP68 certification and other enhancements.
The main selling point of the Duraforce PRO is the fact that it comes with a wide lens action camera, making it the world’s first rugged 4G LTE phone to boast such a feature, or at least that’s what the company claims.
Kyocera says that the Duraforce PRO will be marketed as an affordable and dependable smartphone for both business users and consumers. The device comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP camera on the front.
It also has added functionality for dedicated action-camera devices and features IP68 certification, so it can be used for snapping pictures and filming videos underwater. More precisely, IP68 certification means that the smartphone can be submerged for up to 30 minutes under 2 meters of water.
The handset also comes with Military Standard 810G for protection against dust, shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, rain, low pressure, solar radiation, and many more. The device sports a 5-inch FHD display with impact-resistant touchscreen and draws power from a 3,240mAh battery with Quick Charge and wireless charging.

It also packs an octa-core Snapdragon 617 processor with X8 LTE, and it supports Wi-Fi with 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/r/k, Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Mobile Hot Spot (for up to ten devices), Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Miracast, and USB 2.0.
Duraforce PRO provides 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory and has a dedicated side button for Push-To-Talk (PTT), which can be set to be used as one-touch access to a certain feature or application. The phone comes with a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty, and it runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1.
Kyocera Duraforce PRO will be available in the US in the next few months, and T-Mobile could be one of the carriers, although that remains to be seen.
