Anyone can enter the contest and submit their photos

For the first time in the history of Kubuntu, the official Ubuntu Linux flavor built around the KDE desktop environment, the development team has prepared a so-called "wallpaper contest" event.

Following the example set by the Ubuntu Free Culture Showcase movement, where a group of Ubuntu members led by Nathan Haines select some of the most beautiful wallpapers to be included in the next Ubuntu release, Kubuntu devs have also decided to do the same for the upcoming Kubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark).

"For the Artful cycle, we’re trying something new for Kubuntu: a wallpaper contest! Any user can enter their own piece of artwork; you do not have to be a K/ubuntu member. Kubuntu members will be voting on the wallpaper entries. The top ten wallpapers will be on the Artful ISO," reads the announcement.

We should warn you, though, that it's not a contest, as you won't win any prize, but a way for your excellent photos to be included in the Kubuntu 17.10 operating system as default wallpapers, for millions of possible users to admire your work and use them on their desktops. And that's pretty much every photographer's dream.

Here's how to submit your photo to the Kubuntu 17.10 wallpaper contest

What do you have to do? It's quite simple actually, but you need to have a Flickr account because that's where the wallpaper contest takes place. Choose two of your photos you think are worthy for inclusion in the next Kubuntu release, and submit them on the Kubuntu 17.10 Wallpaper Contest Flickr group.

All photos must have a human-language title and the name of the photographer in the description field if you aren't using your real name on Flickr. Make sure you choose either a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike or Creative Commons Attribution license for each image.

We don't have to tell you that you must submit your own work, not others', and please try to respect the Ubuntu Code of Conduct before submitting any image. There should be only two entries per person, and all submissions must be published before June 8. Winners will be announced on June 22, and Kubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) will be released on October 19, 2017.
