Kubuntu developer Rik Mills informs Softpedia today on the immediate availability of the recently released KDE Plasma 5.11.5 desktop environment for Kubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark).

The KDE Plasma 5.11.5 desktop environment arrived a couple of days ago as the last maintenance update to the short-lived KDE Plasma 5.11 series. While this means that KDE Plasma 5.11 reached end of life and won't receive further updates, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't install KDE Plasma 5.11.5 on your GNU/Linux distro.

In fact, users are urged to update to the KDE Plasma 5.11 maintenance release as soon as possible as it fixes over 30 bugs across multiple core components, such as the Plasma Discover package manager, KWin window and composite manager, as well as Plasma Desktop and Plasma Workspace.

Here's how to update to KDE Plasma 5.11.5 on Kubuntu 17.10

To update your Kubuntu 17.10 or Ubuntu 17.10 operating system to the latest KDE Plasma 5.11.5 desktop environment, you will have to first install the Kubuntu Backports PPA, and then fully upgrade your installation using the two sets of commands listed below in a terminal emulator app, such as Konsole.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports -y
sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
"The Kubuntu backports PPA includes various other backported applications, so please be aware that enabling the backports PPA for the first time and doing a full upgrade will result in a substantial amount of upgraded packages in addition to Plasma 5.11.5," reads today's announcement.

Once the Kubuntu Backports PPA has been enabled on your operating system, you will automatically receive software updates for the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment as they become available, so there's no need to run the first command above and reinstall the PPA, just update your installation from time to time.
