We have been informed today about the availability of the latest KDE Plasma 5.10.2 desktop environment bugfix update for users of the Kubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) operating systems series.

The Kubuntu development team was hard at work during this past couple of weeks testing and updating most of the KDE and Qt technologies that are being used in their beloved GNU/Linux distribution. Therefore, users of the Kubuntu 17.04 release can now install KDE Plasma 5.10.2, KDE Frameworks 5.35.0, and KDevelop 5.1.1.

"The latest 5.10.2 bugfix update for the Plasma 5.10 desktop is now available in our backports PPA for Zesty Zapus 17.04," reads today's announcement. "Our backports for Xenial Xerus [Kubuntu] 16.04 also receive updated Plasma and Frameworks, plus some requested KDE applications."

They also worked on updating the KDE components in the long-term supported Kubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating systems series, to KDE Plasma 5.8.7 LTS, KDE Frameworks 5.35.0, KDevelop 5.1.1, Krita 3.1.4, Konversation 1.7.2, Krusader 2.6, and digiKam 5.5.5. All of them are now available via the Kubuntu Backports PPA.

Here's how to update your Kubuntu systems using the backports PPA

No matter if you're running Kubuntu 16.04 LTS or Kubuntu 17.04, you need to install the backports PPA on your machines if you want to receive the latest KDE and Qt updates. The PPA can be easily added by firing up the Konsole terminal emulator and running the following command.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports -y Once the Kubuntu Backports PPA has been successfully installed, you can proceed to update the packages. Don't close the Konsole terminal just yet because you'll need to execute one more command, listed below. If you already had the backports PPA installed, you will also need to run these commands. sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade Thanks Simon Quigley for the news tip!
