A new milestone in the development cycle

Kubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 (Wily Werewolf), a Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and the KDE desktop environment, is now out and ready for testing.

The Kubuntu developers have been really busy this cycle, and they've had their hands full with the new Plasma and KDE Applications release. These two are very important components, and they play a very big part on how the distribution will run and feel.

Unlike the previous release, which had a very short note in it saying that “The Kubuntu team are committed to releasing 15.10 in October. Updates, bug fixes and future releases are currently uncertain,” the current iteration doesn't mention anything like this. It might be an oversight or maybe things have settled down between the Kubuntu team and the Community Council.

Kubuntu 15.04 Beta 1 (Vivid Vervet) is powered by Plasma 5.4

As it was to be expected, Kubuntu 15.10 will ship with KDE Plasma 5.4, but until that happens users who test this distro will have to settle with a beta version of the 5.4 branch.

“We are preparing Kubuntu Wily Werewolf (15.10) for distribution on October 22nd, 2015. With this Beta 1 pre-release, you can see what we are trying out in preparation for our next (stable) version. Plasma 5, the next generation of KDE's desktop has been rewritten to make it smoother to use while retaining the familiar setup. The fourth set of updates to Plasma 5 (currently in beta) is the default in this version of Kubuntu,” reads the official announcement.

You can find more details about Kubuntu 15.10 Beta 1 (Wily Werewolf) in the official announcement, and you can download the latest image from Softpedia. The distribution is under development, and it still has some bugs and other issues. It's possible to run it as a Live CD and please keep in mind that it's a hybrid ISO.
