Only two weeks after the release of the significant Krita 3.3 update, the popular open-source and cross-platform digital painting app received a bug fix release that addresses some important regressions.

Krita 3.3.1 is a minor maintenance update that fixes two important regressions, including a crash that occurred when restarting Krita after closing it with the reference images docker set to floating, and a bug that won't allow users to import unzipped .kra backup files or .kra files which were then archived manually as a zip file.

Besides these two regressions that, unfortunately, made into the Krita 3.3.0 release, the 3.3.1 maintenance update also introduces a couple of new features, such as paste-at-cursor, a new button that lets users open a file layer’s image in Krita, as well as contrast and brightness sliders for textured brushes.

Performance improvements, more bug fixes

Some performance improvements were also added in the Krita 3.3.1 update, especially for macOS users. The performance of the CPU canvas was improved as well, and Mac OS X users can now create a swap file without Krita crashing. Furthermore, the merge down function was updated to also remove locked layers.

Other than that, there are some aesthetic changes to the look and feel of dragging and dropping layers, as well as to the tooltips in the brush preset selector. Krita 3.3.1 also fixes a memory leak in the color selectors and makes both tilt and rotation work when using the Windows Ink API.

A crash that occurred when attempting to close Krita without an empty clipboard was resolved as well, and the fill tool can no longer be used on group layers. Krita 3.3.1 is available for download on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows platforms, and you are urged to update to it as soon as possible.
