On the first day of August, Chris Smart was more than proud to announce the release and immediate availability for download of his excellent Korora 22 Linux distribution based on the well-known and highly acclaimed Fedora 22 operating system.

Dubbed Selina, Korora 22 comes with all the latest and greatest open-source Linux desktop environments, including KDE Plasma 5, GNOME 3.16, Cinnamon 2.6, MATE 1.10, and Xfce 4.12. Starting with this release, the KDE 4 desktop environment is no longer supported, which means that users of Korora 21 who want want to try out KDE Plasma 5 are being urged by Mr. Smart to upgrade to Korora 22.

"It has been a long road to the Korora 22 (codename 'Selina') release, and we're sorry that it has taken so long," says Chris Smart. "However, it is now finally available for download. [...] Being set in Australia, our releases are normally named after Finding Nemo characters, however in honour of the birth of a daughter to core contributor Maik Adamietz (DarkEra) and his wife, we've decided to name this release after her."

Prominent features of Korora 22 (Selina) include removal of the Adobe Flash Player plugin from the default installation due to security reasons, DNF as the default package manager, the Elasticsearch full-featured, open-source, and self-standing indexing server, GCC 5.1 as the default compiler, captive portal detection on the GNOME edition, firewalld as the default, developer-oriented firewall, Ruby 2.2, Perl 5.20, and Vagrant.

The known issues of Korora 22

As nothing is perfect, there are a few issues present in the final release of Korora 22 Linux that the developer wants you to know about. For example, the "Done" button of the installer will hide occasionally, so you will have to use the Alt+D keyboard shortcut to continue with the installation, there are some MIME type issues on the MATE and Xfce flavors, and the KDE edition offers multiple apps for the same task. Download Korora 22 KDE, Korora 22 GNOME, Korora 22 Cinnamon, Korora 22 MATE, and Korora 22 Xfce.
