Kodi is the best multimedia solution when you want an open source and powerful media hub for your home. A really good Android remote is being worked on so that users can control it much easier.

Kodi can be used as it is, but it's also integrated by default in a few Linux distributions, such as OpenELEC for example. Kodi a much better solution that almost all of the other proprietary and closed systems that are prepackaged, but it has a small missing piece and that is a proper remote.

If you're using Kodi on a Linux system or integrated into a Linux OS, it's possible that some of the most generic remotes out there will work. Ebay is full of infrared remotes, and some of them will get recognized by the OS.

These remotes are becoming more and more useless since a lot of users already have powerful smartphones, and they can be used as remotes, with the proper app support. For now, it looks like Android is the target for the Kore remote app, but that might change in the future.

A new Kore app is being tested

The Kore developers need users' help to test the application on their phones and then launch a new Beta. Everyone is invited to participate and installing the application is a simple enough procedure.

The developers have explained that the Kore Android remote 2.0 now comes with Live TV and PVR/DVR support; new animations have been added on transitions from list to details screens; the option to play/queue entire album, artist or genre has been added; library syncing has been improved; and lots of bug fixes have been corrected.

"If you already have the Kore, Official Remote for Kodi app installed on your device, you'll get an update with the testing version shortly. If you don't have the Kore, Official Remote for Kodi app installed, download it on Google Play first, and then you'll get an update with the testing version. It can take a few hours for the update to arrive," the developers of Kore, Official Remote for Kodi, wrote on the official forum.

You can download "Kore, Official Remote for Kodi" from the Google Playstore right now and join the Beta program. The application supports everything past the XBMC 12.x versions.
