LibreELEC 7.90.009 Alpha now ready for public testing

The development of the open-source and platform-independent LibreELEC (Libre Embedded Linux Entertainment Center) operating system based on the latest Kodi media center software received a new Alpha milestone on December 6, 2016.

Based on the recently released Kodi 17.0 Beta 6 "Krypton" open-source and cross-platform media center, which brings a major "look and feel" overhaul to the Estuary skin, and powered by the most advanced Linux 4.8.12 kernel, LibreELEC (Krypton) 7.90.009 Alpha development build is here with lots of goodies and bug fixes.

"The revised version known as Estuary v2 has more visual depth (is not as flat in appearance) and should be less of a visual shock for users making the switch from Kodi Jarvis/Confluence. Favorites have now been promoted to a main menu item and fanart is more visible than Estuary v1 when browsing in library views," reads the announcement.

Here's what's new in LibreELEC 7.90.009 Alpha

The hottest new features implemented in the LibreELEC 7.90.009 Alpha development release are kernel support for the Docker app container engine on Amlogic AArch64 (ARM 64-bit) devices, updated Linux kernel patches for Raspberry Pi single-board computers, and the addition of extra device IDs to the Realtek RTL8812AU driver.

Among the improvements, we can notice that temperature sensor support in WeTek Hub and WeTek Play 2 now works as expected, Samba disk size/allocation reporting has been repaired for Windows 8 and later versions, ALSA IEC958 (S/PDIF) presentation is now fixed for Hifiberry Digi devices, as well as the WeTek Play 2 recovery image.

LibreELEC 7.90.009 Alpha includes many updated components, such as Intel GPU driver 1.7.8, libass 0.13.4, libCEC 4.0, LibreSSL 2.4.4, LibreELEC settings 0.8.5, and the latest Intel iwlwifi-firmware and DVB drivers for WeTek Play 2. The WeTek Hub has been updated as well to use lirc instead of amremote. You can download the binary images from the announcement page.
