Kodi's Martijn Kaijser announced today the general and immediate availability for download of the first point release to the Kodi 17 "Krypton" open-source and multi-platform media center.

Kodi 17.1 is here about three weeks after the release of the major Kodi 17 "Krypton" series, and it only addresses some of the issues that users reported since then. The most important change is an update to both the Estuary and Estouchy skins, to which some of the users still need to adjust. However, this maintenance update also improves various other components of the popular media center (see below for details).

"This is the bugfix release for v17.1 “Krypton” which contains our continuous effort to further improve the v17 release," reads today's announcement. "Our team tried to tackle as much of the reported problems as possible with the limited resources we have. We do want to note that since we are just a small team some of the reported bugs might not get fixed due to lack of developers or time."

What's new in Kodi 17.1

First of all, Kodi 17.1 improves a few things, such as the analog stick handling, the keyboard mapping during button mapping, the RTMP (Real-Time Messaging Protocol) inputstream add-on for Windows systems, the plugin performance when attempting to build the content list, as well as the Chorus web-based interface. It also introduces a new setting that lets users disable controller's rumble on notifications.

A limiter has been added to random songs to prevent large memory usage when the user has a large collection of multimedia files. Other than that, Kodi 17.1 attempts to fix issues with the PVR (Private Video Recorder) component, the EDL skipping functionality, the song smartplaylist, the replaygain feature for music files, and the controller buttons and SMB (Samba) support for Android devices.

Kodi 17.1 also make it possible for the subtitle stream to no longer close when the audio channel is switched, no longer tries to read tags from Internet audio streams, fixes the music cleanup functionality when dealing with huge databases, and addresses a Kodi upgrade migration hang that some users reported when attempting to update add-ons.
