Adds binary add-ons that were missing from Kodi 17.2

The second stable point release of the major Kodi 17 "Krypton" open-source and cross-platform media center was launched the other day, on May 24, 2017, but it was missing some binary add-ons, so Martijn Kaijser announced today Kodi 17.3.

While Kodi 17.3 is a minor update adding the missing binary add-ons like PVR, Inputstream and visualisation, as well as addressing a crash that occurred on older operating systems using the GCC 4.8 compiler, such as Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), Kodi 17.2 is a major milestone patching a critical security vulnerability.

"You may have read in the news that malicious subtitle zip files could potentially infect and harm your media player including Kodi," said Martijn Kaijser in the release announcement for Kodi 17.2. "Our developers fixed this security gap and had added the fix to this v17.2 release."

The subtitle hack made the headlines yesterday as it appears to leave more than 200 million devices vulnerable to a remote code execution. Therefore, if you're using Kodi 17.1 or a previous version on your HTPC device, you are urged to update to Kodi 17.2 or Kodi 17.3 as soon as possible.

Improved stability and usability

As with any new Kodi bugfix release, the stability and usability of the media center are improved by addressing various of those nasty issues reported by users lately. The full changelog of the Kodi 17.2 "Krypton" point release has been attached at the end of the article if you're curious to know what exactly was changed.

Meanwhile, we recommend you download Kodi 17.3 from your operating system's repositories if you're using a supported GNU/Linux distribution, or from Google Play Store or Windows Store if you're using Kodi on an Android or Windows 10 device.
