Kodi 16.0 “Jarvis” has just been released by its developers, and it signals the fact that we’re getting closer to the stable version of this amazing application.

We might find it difficult to believe that an application as complex and with as many features as Kodi can still get some big improvements or features, but its developers have shown us that it can be done. From what has been revealed until now, Kodi 16.0 “Jarvis” promises to be a huge release and an important step in the franchise.

The development cycle for Kodi (former XBMC) was accelerated, and its makers are now pushing updates and new versions at a much faster pace. They are following a schedule named RERO (Release Early Release Often), which is great in theory, but some users have been asking the devs to fix some of the bugs that still linger in the previous versions instead of moving on to the next.

On the other hand, the Kodi developers don’t want to be stuck fixing bugs for older versions, and they want to continue to move forward. Neither of these models will satisfy everyone.

Kodi 16 is all about the new

“The time has come to bring you all Release Candidate 1 for Kodi v16. It took a bit longer than we anticipated due to some problems along the way though they should be under control now. This release consists of some nice features but, more importantly, it continues effort of making the underlying code more mature and future proof which should result in a more stable Kodi in general,” developers explained.

In the changelog posted in the official announcement, the Kodi makers said that they have added Event Logging that shows why a video file hasn’t been added to the library, skin settings are now stored as separate files, Audio DSP (Digital Signal Processing) add-on has been integrated, the PVR/DVR section has been extended, the user interface now supports a new stereoscopic depth effect for 3D TVs or VR headsets, and the add-on manager has been vastly improved.

This is just a small part of what’s coming. Make sure that you read the full changelog below. You can download the latest version of Kodi from Softpedia.
