The Kodi development team announced a few minutes ago, August 16, that the first maintenance release of the Kodi 15.0 "Isengard" open-source media center software is now available for download for all supported platforms.

According to the release notes (see below), Kodi 15.1 is here to fix a great number of issues that have been reported by users since the release of Kodi 15.0, as well as to update some of the core components used by the media center app, such as FFMpeg, which has been updated to version 2.6.4, and to improve the overall performance and stability.

"Once a ‘final’ version is released some new bugs and/or problems usually appear out of nowhere, and last release was no exception," says Martijn Kaijser, Kodi's CFO. "To counter some of these new issues, we’re bringing you this maintenance release called 15.1 which has some additional fixes on top of the 15.0 release."

Looking through the quite long changelog, we can notice that Kodi 15.1 "Isengard" fixes a stuttering problem with PVR (Private Video Recording) windows, repairs the broken network.bandwidth setting, addresses issues with overlapping subtitles in various cases, and fixes a crash related to logging that occurred on app exiting.

Furthermore, the Cocoa_GetVolumeNameFromMountPoint function has been reimplemented for the Mac OS X operating system, renderbuffers are now flashed during flush of the video player, a crash in DoModal for CProgressJob has been fixed, and the label color of the sliderex controls have been updated.

The first maintenance release of Kodi 15.0 also fixes a crash that occurred when attempting to delete a file in the file manager, repairs the faulty navigation in the SmartPlaylistEditor.xml file, fixes a holding lock issue during query of the PVR backend, and addresses a crash that occurred on application update because of some formatting issue on MySQL queries.

There are fixes for iOS devices as well

In addition to the changes mentioned above, Kodi 15.1 brings with it fixes for the iOS mobile operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices, such as fixes for the broken native keyboard on devices running iOS 5.1.1, and for a linkage for the VTB framework on devices running versions of iOS smaller than 6.0, as well as broken unsigned apps on jailbroken devices running iOS 5.1.

Among other changes, we can mention that Kodi 15.1 is capable of handling the startup splash as a regular window, adds a missing return in the CGUIWindowPVRBase::OnBack function, adds installed languages to the list of attainable stream languages, makes sure that the file descriptor for logfile is NULL’ed, and makes various virtual file systems available when there's no network.

Last but not least, the mouse wheel slider control and control spin are now set only when they're focused, view mode changes of EPG are now respected during control of the number of EPG updates, and the watched flag has been repaired to show if the respective item is resumable.
