If you were still holding out hope that Kanye West was joking when he announced at the MTV VMAs 2015 that he would run for President of the United States in 2020, here’s some bad news: he wasn’t. He is very serious about his candidacy and will do his best to get your vote, his wife Kim Kardashian says.

Kim taped an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the other day, to promote one thing or another, and she made sure to set the record straight: Kanye isn’t trying to pull off a hoax with his candidacy announcement, he really wants to run.

Big plans for the White House

As determined as Kanye is to throw his name in the 2020 elections, he didn’t bother to inform his wife about his plans, Kim says.

You can see this segment of the interview in the first video embedded below; the other two are standard Kardashian topics of conversation, like Kim’s second pregnancy and what she’ll name the boy, and Caitlyn Jenner and her public transition from male to female.

Kim swears she had no idea Kanye would announce his candidacy at the VMAs, out of all places, but she has no doubt he could make it to President because he always achieves what he sets his mind on.

And she’s already imagining how much “fun” it would be at the White House.

“I was thinking about how much fun it would be to be in the White House.” Kim says. The only drawback is that Kanye takes his time with redecorating, which means that he’ll probably need 2 terms to get it to suit his taste.

“I was like, ‘You are going to have to redo the whole White House, and we aren’t going to be able to enjoy it, so we are just going to have to go with the flow’,” Kim continues.

Seriously, Kanye West is running for President

Until he gets ready for the elections, Kanye has also been doing some promotional interviews, to boost interest in his second fashion line with Adidas, which he debuted at the New York Fashion Week 2015. It was met with ridicule online and pure contempt by industry peers, but Kanye is unfazed.

Speaking with Vanity Fair recently about his fashion endeavors, Kanye said that he was thrilled by the support he was getting in the aftermath of his candidacy announcement. He knew he was regarded as a people’s champion because he dared to speak the truth when no one else did, and he promised to live up to the hype.

The big caveat was that he had no idea about politics and that he hadn’t even thought about what he’d do when he became President (with Kanye, it’s not a question of if). So he’d start his research, but only when he got some time off from clubbing, he said.
