Their parents thought it was a buoy, let them play with it

Last week, a family in Wales visited a local beach for some old-fashioned sunbathing, swimming and lying in the sand doing absolutely nothing.

Not big on relaxation, the children, 6-year-old Erin and 4-year-old Ellis, left their parents and set out to explore the surroundings. They ended up finding an odd-looking metal sphere.

Since they had no idea what it was, the kids called out to their parents, Gareth and Kelly Gravell, who came to have a look at it themselves.

The couple simply assumed that the metal sphere was a buoy and so let them play with it. A few days later, however, the supposed buoy was revealed to be a World War II bomb.

Authorities intervened and the bomb, found by the Gravell family on West Beach in Burry Port, was removed and safely destroyed by trained staff.

“So the buoy my kids were jumping on all weekend turns out to be a WWII bomb. Oops!!” Gareth Gravell wrote in a post on Twitter when learning what the metal sphere really was.

Not to be too harsh, but “oops” doesn't even begin to cover it. Luckily, the US-made World War II battle memorabilia didn't go off while Erin and Ellis were scaling it.

As noted, the bomb was destroyed shortly after discovery. A video of the controlled explosion was released by Pembrey Country Park officials just the other day and is available below.
