KDE's José Manuel Santamaría Lema is informing the Kubuntu Linux community today about the upcoming availability of a multitude of updates for various KDE technologies in the Kubuntu Backports PPA.

It's a known fact that Kubuntu developers are always working hard to bring you all the latest goodies as soon as they are released upstream, and it looks like Kubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) users will be treated with the KDE Plasma 5.9.5 desktop environment, which is the last in the series, as KDE Plasma 5.10 is coming at the end of May.

Additionally, they will receive the KDE Frameworks 5.33.0 packages, along with some more or less up-to-date KDE applications, including digiKam 5.5, Konversation 1.7, Yakuake 3.0.4, Krusader 2.6.0, Krita 3.1.3, and LabPlot 2.4.0. All these are currently available for testing in the Kubuntu Backports Landing PPA.

"We have been working the last few days on some upgrades for backports. They are available for testing in the backports-landing PPA: https://launchpad.net/~kubuntu-ppa/+archive/ubuntu/backports-landing," said José Manuel Santamaría Lema, Software Developer at KDE, in the mailing list announcement.

KDE Plasma 5.8.6 LTS and KDE Frameworks 5.33.0 coming to Kubuntu 16.04 LTS

If you're using the Kubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, there's also good news for you today as José Manuel Santamaría Lema said that users would be getting the KDE Plasma 5.8.6 LTS desktop environment, along with KDE Frameworks 5.33.0. All these updates are coming soon to the official Kubuntu Backports PPA.

At the moment, Kubuntu 16.04 LTS ships with KDE Plasma 5.5.5 and KDE Frameworks 5.18.0, while Kubuntu 17.04 is using the KDE Applications 16.12.3, KDE Frameworks 5.31.0 and KDE Plasma 5.9.4 packages. In the meantime, development of the Kubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark) operating system continues at a fast pace with all the latest KDE technologies.
