It's Valentine's Day, and to celebrate this important event, the KDE developers demonstrate their love for KDE Plasma users by bringing them a new maintenance update for the KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop environment.

Yes, we're talking about KDE Plasma 5.9.2, the second point release to the latest KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop, which launched just two weeks ago for various GNU/Linux distributions, including KDE Neon and Arch Linux. Because of the new, fast release cycle, you see this new version just one week after the first update, namely KDE Plasma 5.9.1.

As for the changes implemented by KDE Plasma 5.9.2, according to the full changelog, it would appear that a series of bugs have been fixed across various components like Breeze, Oxygen, Plasma Discover, Plasma Addons, Plasma Desktop, Plasma Workspace, KScreen, Plasma NetworkManager (plasma-nm), KSSHAskPass, KWin, and SDDM KCM.

"Today KDE releases a bugfix update to KDE Plasma 5, versioned 5.9.2. Plasma 5.9 was released in January with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. This release adds a two week's worth of new translations and fixes from KDE's contributors. The bugfixes are typically small but important," reads today's announcement.

KDE Plasma 5.9.3 is coming February 28

Unlike KDE Plasma 5.8 LTS, KDE Plasma 5.9 is a normal release of the popular desktop environment that gets only five maintenance updates, and the next one, KDE Plasma 5.9.3, will hit the streets at the end of the month, on February 28, bringing even more bug fixes and stability improvements.

After that, KDE Plasma 5.9.4 will see the light of day on March 21, and the final point release, KDE Plasma 5.9.5, should land a month later, on April 25, marking the end of life for the KDE Plasma 5.9 desktop environment. Until then, we recommend updating your computers to KDE Plasma 5.9.2 at your earliest convenience.
