The KDE community announced that the KDE Plasma 5.5.1 is now out and ready for download. This is just a bug fix release, but it's very likely that we'll see it available very soon in repos.

The previous KDE Plasma 5.5 launch was a huge one, and it brought a ton of improvements and changes. The Plasma desktop is advancing by leaps and bounds, and it looks like each new release manages to be more interesting than the previous one.

Not everyone liked the way the new KDE Plasma 5.x looked, but users are finally beginning to appreciate it. It's true that many upgrades and fixes were needed, but the desktop is now in a place where it can gain new users without alienating the older ones.

The Visual Design Group also had a say with the KDE Plasma 5.5 launch, and they pushed a huge update for the icons and other components.

KDE Plasma 5.5.1 is ready now

"Plasma 5.5 was released in last week with many feature refinements and new modules to complete the desktop experience. We are experimenting with a new release schedule with bugfix releases started out frequent and becoming less frequent. The first two bugfix releases come out in the weeks following the initial release and future ones at larger increments," developers wrote in the official announcement.

According to the changelog, a freeze that would occur during Plasma/Wayland startup has been fixed, windows no longer lose their 'active state' while being moved, numerous fixes have landed for full-screen launcher application dashboard, the app notified is no longer crashing, a minimum size for the popup dialog has been set, and many more other changes have been made.

If you don't want to wait until the new version reaches your repository, you can download the KDE Plasma sources from Softpedia, but please keep in mind that you need to know what you're doing.
