14 DAY TRIAL // Plasma 5.4 has been revealed by the KDE Community, and the developers have made a series of very important changes and improvements that will soon land in the stable branch of the desktop.
The KDE Plasma desktop has seen some pretty amazing modifications in the past few months, and developers have continued to push for even more improvements. Each new edition of Plasma has been a great success, and it looks like there is still room for improvement. If we keep in mind that Plasma is basically the first thing a KDE users sees, then it's easy to understand why any upgrade to it will be noticeable.
In case you haven't already known this, Plasma is the name of the desktop from the KDE project, and along with Frameworks and Applications, it makes KDE great. Ever since KDE Software Compilation was split into these three components, the developers have managed to make some incredible progress with it.
Plasma 5.4 Beta already looks impressive
"This release of Plasma brings many nice touches for our users such as much improved high DPI support, KRunner auto-completion and many new beautiful Breeze icons. It also lays the ground for the future with a tech preview of Wayland session available. We're shipping a few new components such as an Audio Volume Plasma Widget, monitor calibration tool and the User Manager tool comes out beta," reads the official announcement.
According to the changelog, a new Audio Volume Applet has been integrated, an entirely new Application Dashboard alternative launcher has been added, over 1,400 new icons have been added to the Breeze set, KRunner now has a proper history function, and lots of other smaller changes have been made.
