14 DAY TRIAL // Ex-Kubuntu leader Jonathan Riddell announced the availability of daily build ISO images for the rolling KDE Neon Linux operating system, which early adopters can get and test drive as we speak.
Since he left the Kubuntu leadership, Jonathan Riddell's new project, KDE Neon, looks like it gets a lot of attention lately from KDE and Kubuntu fans alike, especially those who want to migrate to a rolling release operating system. And you can now get your hands on KDE Neon daily build ISO images with the KDE Plasma desktop on Wayland.
"With Neon’s infrastructure moving ahead nicely I’ve been able to update my Plasma Wayland images to build on the Neon infrastructure fresh each day," said Jonathan Riddell. "It uses packages built from KDE Frameworks and Plasma Git master branches and has a default session of KWin running as a Wayland compositor."
Now based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus)
The truth is that KDE Neon's daily builds are currently based on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system, but if you are a KDE and Ubuntu fan, that shouldn't bother you much, especially that Ubuntu 16.04 proves to be a pretty stable and reliable base for any GNU/Linux operating system.
For those of you who are not in the loop, KDE Neon was introduced to the Linux community at the end of January, during the FOSDEM (Free and Open Source Software Developers' European Meeting) 2016 event, as an alternative to Kubuntu Linux, aimed at those who want to have the latest KDE technologies on top of an Ubuntu base.
You can download the KDE Neon Plasma Wayland daily ISO images, but please try to keep in mind that these are not thoroughly tested builds, so it is not recommended to install them on your production-ready system. Also, note that the ISO images support only 64-bit (amd64) hardware platforms.
