After launching the first point release of the KDE Applications 17.08 software suite, the KDE project announced this week the release of KDE Frameworks 5.38.0, the monthly update to the open-source collection of add-on libraries for the latest Qt 5 technologies.

KDE Frameworks 5.38.0 is packed with a total of 115 changes that include bug fixes and improvements for various core components and apps. Among these, we can mention Plasma Framework, KWayland, KTextEditor, KWidgetsAddons, KWindowSystem, KXMLGUI, KRunner, KNotification, KJobWidgets, KPackage Framework, KIO, KCoreAddons, KDocTools, KDED, KGlobalAccel, KInit, KConfigWidgets, KConfig, KActivitiesStats, and Baloo.

"KDE today announces the release of KDE Frameworks 5.38.0. KDE Frameworks are 70 addon libraries to Qt which provide a wide variety of commonly needed functionality in mature, peer reviewed and well-tested libraries with friendly licensing terms," reads the release announcement. "This release is part of a series of planned monthly releases making improvements available to developers in a quick and predictable manner."

Now shipping with the Kirigami framework for building convergent UIs

While also shipping with various improvements for the framework integration, extra CMake modules, and syntax highlighting, KDE Frameworks 5.38.0 now includes KDE's Kirigami framework, which provides developers with a collection of QtQuick components that should help them build convergent user interfaces based on the KDE UX guidelines, which can be used on both mobile and desktop platforms.

The entire changelog of the KDE Frameworks 5.38.0 release is attached below if you're curious to know what's been changed since last month's KDE Frameworks 5.37.0 milestone. If you're using the KDE Frameworks technologies on your GNU/Linux distribution, we recommend updating to version 5.38.0 as soon as possible, or as soon as it lands in the stable repos.
