Today, July 9, 2016, KDE has announced the release of the KDE Frameworks 5.24.0 collection of over 70 add-ons for the Qt5 GUI toolkit, just in time for the KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment.

Earlier this week, on July 5, the KDE Project announced the KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop environment, which brought lots of goodies to diehard fans of the KDE user interface for GNU/Linux operating systems. Among them are multiple enhancements to the Wayland display server, better Kiosk support, new system tray and task manager, as well as improved workflows.

Now KDE releases KDE Frameworks 5.24.0, which brings even more improvements to the KDE Plasma 5.7 desktop, in particular for the Breeze icon set, which received some new icons and many improvements to existing ones. But there are also small fixes to core components like KArchive, KBookmarks, KNotification, KIO, KNotifyConfig, KParts, Kross, KRunner, KWidgetsAddons, KXMLGUI, Solid, KJS, KNewStuff, and KItemModels.

Plasma Framework and many KDE apps have received many features

In addition to the core components mentioned above, KDE Frameworks 5.24.0 adds new features to the Plasma Framework and several KDE apps, among which we can mention KTextEditor, NetworkManagerQt, and Sonnet. As expected, the Wayland support has received some attention in this release of KDE Frameworks, as the KWayland component has over ten changes in the changelog.

Last but not least, KDE Frameworks 5.24.0 comes with minor improvements and bugfixes to many other components, such as KItemModels, KInit, KIconThemes, KI18n, KHTML, KGlobalAccel, KEmoticons, KDocTools, KDesignerPlugin, KDED, KDeclarative, KConfigWidgets, KConfig, Baloo, along with extra CMake modules and KDELibs 4 support, which you can view in the full release notes attached below.

KDE Frameworks 5.24.0 should make its way into the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution in the coming days, so make sure that you update as soon as possible. OS vendors who distributed KDE packages on their systems need to fetch the latest sources from the main KDE download website, and users can find details about how to install KDE Frameworks as binary packages on their distributions here.
