The KDE Project announced on Thursday the availability of the first point release of the KDE Applications 17.12 open-source software suite for Linux-based and UNIX-like operating systems.

KDE Applications 17.12 is the latest and most advanced version of the open source software suite used in KDE Plasma desktop environments or independently. It was released last month on December 14 with numerous improvements and new features, including HiDPI support for Okular and Dolphin enhancements.

Now, the KDE Applications 17.12.1 minor bugfix release is out and brings more than 20 improvements to various of the included applications like Ark, Akonadi, Dolphin, Filelight, Gwenview, KGet, K3b, Kate, Kdenlive, Kleopatra, KMix, KMahjongg, Kontact, Okteta, Okular, and Umbrello.

Highlights of KDE Applications 17.12.1

Among some of the highlights of the KDE Applications 17.12.1 point release, we can mention that it's now again possible to send emails in Kontact with certain SMTP servers, Umbrello UML diagram tool now lets users import JAVA projects, and Gwenview's tag searches and timeline were greately improved.

You should check out the full changelog for more details on the bug fixes and improvements implemented in KDE Applications 17.12.1, and, in the meantime, check the stable software repositories of your favorite operating system for the new packages, and install them as soon as possible to enjoy these enhancements.

The KDE Applications 17.12 software suite will receive two more such point releases, versioned 17.12.2 and 17.12.3. While KDE Applications 17.12.2 is expected to arrive on February 8, the KDE Applications 17.12.3 release should hit the streets on March 8, 2018, to mark the end of life of the series. Until then, don't forget to spread the word and contribute to KDE’s success.

"Non-technical contributors are an important part of KDE’s success. While proprietary software companies have huge advertising budgets for new software releases, KDE depends on people talking with other people. Even for those who are not software developers, there are many ways to support the KDE Applications 17.12.1 release," was stated in today's announcement.
